Fig Tree

"Everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree / And no one shall make them afraid."

This is a contest submission for artfulbeast's DTIYS (Draw This In Your Style) on Instagram. In their last slide they showed this character comically holding up a sign that said, "God left me unfinished" so I took this idea of 'unfinishedness' and refurbished the meaning to 'imperfect yet beautiful'. This, then, reminded me of a quote I read recently about how diamonds aren't valuable because they provide a function, but because their value lies in their rare and unique existence -- and this is the level of self-acceptance and value we should have for ourselves and others. The hopefulness that this quote spurred in me reminded me of the quote from Hamilton (the musical), and thought that one day I will come to fully claim this truth for myself, and I will sit under my own tree of the internal works I've done in myself and rest under its branches. Okay, there are no figs but just look at how cute that mouse is, resting under the leaves.
